Volunteer with Heartlinks
Volunteers are the heart of the hospice mission. No other branch in health care embraces volunteers as passionately as hospice does.
Upon completing volunteer training, you can play a direct role in providing emotional support to individuals nearing the end of their lives and their families. Or, you can contribute by assisting the Heartlinks administrative and fundraising teams, serving a vital role in supporting all patients.
Volunteer & Make a Difference
Companion Volunteers
Step forward to be a comforting presence during challenging times. By offering relief from caregiver fatigue, you provide hope to those battling chronic illness.
-
Visit patients, help organize photos, write letters, read to patients and support their fun hobbies like coloring and completing puzzles. Your mere presence normalizes the hospice experience and enhances the quality of life for individuals, recognizing their worth on life’s journey.
-
Gain insight into the patient’s ongoing experience with their hospice care and can provide valuable feedback to the clinical team.
Administration/Event Volunteers
Hospice and palliative care involve intricate behind-the-scenes work, requiring many helping hands.
-
Support the administrative team with tasks such as mailings and organizing donations to lighten the load and help cut Heartlinks’ administrative costs.
-
Heartlinks hosts several fundraising events each year. Volunteers are essential for the success of these events through setup, staffing, and cleanup.
HOBS Volunteers
Heartlinks operates two Hospice Benefits Shops (HOBS) in Prosser and Zillah that are primarily staffed by volunteers. Funds generated at HOBS provide crucial financial support to Heartlinks’ adult and pediatric Palliative Care programs.
-
Help sort clothing and household donations
-
Price inventory, stock shelves, and operate the cash register.
Pet Therapy Volunteers
Dogs, cats, and rabbits can bring joy, comfort and peace to patients suffering from terminal illnesses, particularly those with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Our goal is to offer weekly support to all hospice and palliative care patients who desire it.
-
Heartlinks covers the costs for you and your pet to become therapy certified, accommodating your schedule for regular in-home pet therapy visits.
All volunteers undergo mandatory training background checks to ensure client safety. For more information, or to register for the upcoming training, please contact our volunteer coordinator at (509) 837-1676.
