Development Staff

Shelby Wheeler, Development Director

As the Development Director, Shelby is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all of Heartlinks Hospice & Palliative Care’s fundraising activities including, the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. As the Development Director, she works closely with the Special Events Coordinator and Communications Officer in all development and fundraising endeavors. She oversees all donor relations programs, communicates with all current and prospective donors, while ensuring that Heartlinks Hospice seeks strategic partnerships within our community.
Shelby joined the Heartlinks Hospice team in November 2016. She previously served on the Development team at Kadlec Foundation and Loyola Sacred Heart Foundation (Missoula, MT). She graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, and currently volunteers for the Alpha Phi Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation as a Wish Grantor for the Eastern Washington area. Her background in nonprofit administration and passion for hospice care is an excellent combination for leading the Development Department at Heartlinks Hospice & Palliative Care. Shelby is proud to be a part of an amazing community, and is committed to future success of Heartlinks Hospice!

Madison Sartain, Communications Officer

As the Communications Officer, Madison is responsible for the ongoing communication strategy of Heartlinks Hospice & Palliative Care. She advises employees and managers on communication tasks and creates a wide range of communication materials. Madison is the liaison between Heartlinks Hospice and the public that we serve. As a part of the Development team, she works closely with the Development Director and Special Events Coordinator to create a more integrated approach to fundraising. She oversees all social media, website, and coordinates other outreach efforts.
Madison joined the Heartlinks Hospice team in June 2015. She graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and was a member of Delta Zeta Pi Kappa. In her free time, Madison is avid adventurer and can usually be found exploring the trails of the beautiful Northwest. Madison is happy to be a part of the team at Heartlinks Hospice and is passionate about the work that we do!

Valerie Hull, Community Liaison/Events Coordinator

As the Community Liaison/ Events Coordinator, Valerie is responsible for coordinating all fundraising events and ensuring the event runs smoothly. She conducts research to identify event opportunities and gathers information to maximize the quality of events. She works with the Development Director to promote and publicize events and serve as the liaison with vendors on all events related matters. She coordinates all event logistics, and follows with all pre-and post-event evaluations to ensure that we are in compliance with all obligations.
Valerie joined the Heartlinks Hospice team in March 2013. She previously worked as a nurse for 17 years and worked in computer data entry ofr Indian Health Service. She graduated from Yakima Valley Community College with an Associate of Science and Nursing. She volunteers as a volleyball coach, and helps organize various fun runs for teams and training. In her free time, she enjoys camping, cooking, and skiing. She is excited to be a part of the lower valley community, and is happy to be a part of the development team.
